Fun Facts: Ever wonder what Wednesday means?

It’s fun to learn new facts on a daily basis, so here are some fun facts:

The name Wednesday derives from two mighty but distinct gods. The Old English word for Wednesday indicates that the day was named for the Germanic god Woden. In Romance languages, the name is derived from the Roman god Mercury. (For example, Wednesday is mercredi in French and miercuri in Romanian.) Woden (also known as Odin) and Mercury have  been associated since Scandinavian and Roman cultures crossed paths. Under Woden’s supervision, the earth and sky were created from the dead body of a giant named Ymir. Woden also created the first man and woman from an ash tree and an alder. As if fashioning the human race wasn’t enough, Woden also established the laws of the universe.

Mercury was the messenger to the gods, along with being the patron of science, the arts, travelers and athletes. Today, he is one of the most widely recognized gods. Usually, he’s depicted wearing a winged helmet and sandals.

Starting around 1965, Wednesday began being referred to as “hump day.” Smack dab in the middle of the traditional work week, arriving at Wednesday symbolizes that we’ve made it over the hump and the weekend is in sight.

Happy Wednesday, and have an awesome Thursday!

Don’t let the day wake you up, Wake up the Day! Flip the script!

Waiting for the alarm clock to wake you up is wasting valuable time.  Flip the script and begin your morning before your clock tells you to.  Greatness begins when success and prosperity are more valuable than sleep and leisure time.  Fighting to allow only winning to accompany you on this trip called life is the key to being the best at what you do.  Aren’t you simply over seeing the same people winning, while you sit back in the wings watching and wondering how?  Well everyone has a gift, and it’s your job to discover what yours is and begin to cultivate it.  Start by re-creating your self-portrait of success and achievement for yourself.  That means you have to power yourself through the old mindset that you are somehow lesser, or not as capable as those people who you admire.

It doesn’t matter how old you are, where you were born, if you are poor, or if you messed up before.  What matters today is that you identify your passion, discover how to make it great, and don’t quit until it becomes a source of security and wealth.  Remember, waiting on the alarm clock to alert you that it’s time to begin your greatness, is like waiting for a great meal to prepare itself! True prosperity is balancing your life, family, career, money, and success, but that can’t be done if you are asleep.  So wake up the day with greatness on your mind and make your success a reality, and not just a dream!

Success (do you have it or not?)

I Like My Toast Black

looaiding

Okay….  Success, what are we really talking about here?  We hear this word so often, but what does it really mean?  Success is basically the accomplishment of a goal or purpose.

It can also mean money prosperity, riches, and opulence.  If we think about success on a more practical basis, it really just means to actually have a goal that you are not “sleeping” on.  One that has vision, and movement.  It would be ideal if everyone had the top-notch success story about being a self-made millionaire, or building an empire from scratch. But in reality, those stories are not the norm (although attainable).  The fundamentals of Success is being impregnated with your own personal vision for your life, and one that is indicative of what you love to do, and what you do well.  One that is not dead, but alive and growing right before your eyes.  Now let’s…

Dead end job?….. What’s behind door # 2?

Discovering your purpose as it relates to your career can be difficult when you did not plan properly.  One of the main issues being that most people don’t just wake up one day and decide they want to have a low paying stressful job that is un-rewarding, or a job that taxes the body so much that it is debilitating after only 10 years or so. Typically, those jobs are acquired due to the need for income, and the need to make ends meet.  Therefore, strategic planning is pertinent to assuring that you can secure a career this is both financially, and emotionally rewarding. College, technical school, and entrepreneurship planning are ways to secure a more stable  and financially sound future for both you and your family. Additionally, duplicating those plans for your children are equally as important.  It is never too late to change the direction of your career, and to get you on track to building a stable financial future and gratifying career. If you feel that you are in a dead-end job, take a look at the list below.

  • Evaluate the financial aspect of how much money you want to earn, and how you prefer to live, including securing a sound future for yourself and family.

  • Choose a career that the preparation (ie: college funding, etc) is commensurate  with the pay that you will receive.  That way you won’t stay upside down too long as it relates to paying off any subsequent student loans or funding that is needed to secure your degree or certification.
  • Don’t be fearful of the challenge that lies ahead.  Anything that is worth having is worth fighting for.  Don’t be deceived by someone else’s success. Successful people make success look easy.

Introductions can make or break you!  You have only a few seconds to make an impression, otherwise, you can fall into a black hole, never to be thought of again.  Here are 8  very subtle power moves that will leave an impactful impression on whomever you meet, regardless of the venue. 3-2-1 go….

Walk into the room, head up, not down. Be powerful, confident, and assertive.

Flash a pleasant smile, then give immediate eye contact.

Acknowledge the person that you are meeting, don’t forget, eye contact is key when you are listening or speaking.

Sit uprightly, never look bored, or uninterested, be attentive at all times.

Don’t be too chatty, and match styles.  If the person makes small talk, it’s okay to respond with short yet organic responses. Let them preside over the introduction, you are only there to make an impactful impression.

Never use words such as:  okay, hmmm, kinda, yeah…

Sit uprightly, never look bored, or uninterested, be attentive at all times.

Don’t be too chatty, and match styles.  If the person makes small talk, it’s okay to respond with short yet organic responses. Let them preside over the introduction, you are only there to make an impactful impression.

Never use words such as:  okay, hmmm, kinda, yeah, umm, and no folding of the arms, it gives the impression that you are impatient.  Using any of the words above does not memorialize your presence, and does not set you apart from the competition.

Lastly leave the meeting with an exit greeting, and a genuine compliment and thank you! Give a final goodbye, and keep it professional.

Own it, it’s your moment.  It’s okay to “Fake it till you make it” even if you are nervous!  Think before you speak, and keep the conversation in context. Don’t ever let them see you sweat.

Words like “It was a pleasure”, “Absolutely”, and “Sure”, made Chick-fil-A’s  service famous, emulate that, and it’s a win-win.

It takes approximately 33 seconds to be introduced, and to make a positive impactful impression. No matter how long the meeting is, you can win over anyone in 33 seconds using the positive leads above.  Remember people don’t really know that you are a novice until you open your mouth and confirm it.  Keep your answers targeted toward the questions, and for the purposes of this introduction and meeting, be pleasantly quiet and attentive unless you are asked a question. These people were just like you, and sat in your seat before, and they are human, so don’t freak out! If you look the part, you get consideration points just for that alone. Being quiet doesn’t mean you don’t say anything during the awkward silence, it means you don’t dominate the conversation, you compliment it!

  • Don’t depend on others to motivate you, be innovative and look for exclusivity when possible, it sets you apart from the competition.
  • Don’t expect to have all the pieces, you don’t have to be great to start, you have to start to be great!
